History Biographical:

St. Michael's and All Angels' Anglican Church (Azilda, Ont.) is a church in the Anglican Parish of All Saints', Onaping and St. Michael's and All Angels', Azilda, Ont., which is northwest of the municipality of Greater Sudbury.

In 1954 the first services of St. Michael's and All Angels' Anglican Church (Azilda, Ont.) were conducted by the Venerable Gilbert Thompson,Archdeason of Nipissing and Rector of St. John's (Copper Cliff, Ont.). These early services were held in a school room. The first incumbent serving Azilda was Rev. A.J. Whyham. Two lots were bought to build the church on in 1956, and the parish bought a large house to demolish and use its materials for the church.

Archbishop W.L. Wright (center), Rev. Hoover (on his right), and others during the dedication of the church at Azilda Construction on the church building began in August 1960. The church seats about 150 people and was built by volunteer labour. On September 18, 1960 the first service was held in St. Michael's and All Angels' Anglican Church (Azilda, Ont.), though the church was still incomplete. The church was officially dedicated and opened by the Most Rev. W.L. Wright, Archbishop of Algoma, on January 17, 1961. In 1985, St. Michael's new parish hall was blessed and dedicated by Bishop Leslie Peterson.

Early incumbents included: Rev. A. J. Whyham (1956-1959), Rev. Lloyd S. Hoover (1959-1966), Rev. J. G. M. Doolan (1966-1974), Rev. R. J. S. Inshaw (1974-1976), Rev. D. Bowring (1976-1977), Rev. R. McCord (1977-1981?), Rev. K. Ostler (1981-1985), Rev. Susan De Gruchy (1986-?).
