The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) is a component of the Indian Residential School Settlement Agreement. It was officially established on June 2, 2008. The Commission has a five year mandate and is supported by a TRC Secretariat, which is a federal government department.
The TRC has a mandate to learn the truth about what happened in residential schools and to share this information with all Canadians. The Commission documents what happened by relying on records held by those who operated the schools, and experiences reported by survivors, their families, and anyone personally affected by the residential school legacy.
The TRC's first national healing and reconciliation event was held on June 16-19, 2010 in Winnipeg.
Collection comprises documents on the development and administration of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Includes proposals, notices, newsletters, programs, and other material.
