History Biographical: 

Adrian Stimson is a member of the Siksika (Blackfoot) Nation in southern Alberta. He is an interdisciplinary artist, curator and educator with a BFA with distinction from the Alberta College of Art & Design and MFA from the University of Saskatchewan.

As an interdisciplinary artist, Adrian’s work includes paintings, installations, collodion wet plate photography, sculpture and performance. Both of Adrian's parents worked in Residential Schools across Canada.  Both of Adrain's parents worked at numerous residential schools across Canada.

Scope Content: 

Collection comprises digital copies of residential school photographs collected by Adrian Stimson. Photographs relate to Old Sun Indian Residential School (Gleichen, Alta.), St. Philip's Indian Residential School (Fort George, Que.), and Qu'Appelle Indian Residential School (Lebret, Sask.) . Photographs feature students, staff, buildings and activities.

Custodial History: 

The Old Sun Indian Residential School photographs were given to Adrian Stimson by William (Bill) Starr in 2008.  Material in accession 2013-050 was digitized by SRSC staff in 2013.  The Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre only holds digital copies of these images.

Conservation: 

The Old Sun Residential School photographs were once in held in a photo album created by William Starr, the binding/cover of the photo album was removed and the pages are no longer in their original order. A number of the photo album pages are missing photographs.
