History Biographical: 

Harold James McQuarrie is a former Algoma Central Railway employee and railroad enthusiast. McQuarrie also served for many years as Reeve of Cockburn Island and is very knowledgeable about the history of the north shore of Lake Huron.

Scope Content: 

Fonds comprises training manuals and self-study for railroad professions generally and ACR employees specifically, common rules and regulations for operating Canada's rail system generally and the ACR specically, ACR saftey manuals, geological surveys and studies of the lands owned by the ACR, maps of railroad systems in North America, the Canadian Railroad Magazine, the American Association of Rail Engineers journal, ACR schedules, railroad histories, some photograpahs, postcards, forms and other ACR ephemera. Fonds also includes aerial prints of the Helen Mine and the Sinter Plant (Wawa, Ont.) and Michipicoten Harbour, 21 blueprints of locomotives, 1 blue print for the Empress of India ocean liner, 1 blueprint for the Cockburn Island Cemetary (1886-1998) researched and created by Harold McQuarrie, 1 map: "The Great Fishing and Hunting Region of New Ontario Reached by the Algoma Central & Hudson Bay Railway, 1933 June 2," Provincial and Federal lists of electors for Franz, Ont. on the ACR line 1987-1988, correspondence concerning the change of name from Stavert, Ont. to Jogues, Ont. on the A.C. R., 1922, and special anniversary issues of the Sault Star, Manitoulin Recorder, and Toronto Telegram and other newspapers.
