Gilmor, Gowan (1849-1928)

(1849 County Sligo, Ireland - 1 September 1928 Sault Ste. Marie); son of the Rev'd Andrew Todd Gillmor and Mary Jemima Franklin; Sub-inspector (from 1875) of Royal Irish Constabulary (1869-1881); SPG Missionary on the CPR (1884-1885); Deacon: 1884, Priest: 1885 (with Frederick Frost) Algoma; North Bay (1885-1889); Rosseau (1891-1907); Rural Dean of Parry Sound (1899-1903) (first to be elected); Archdeacon of Algoma (1903-1928); Bishop's Commissary (1903-1927); Travelling Missionary (1907-1920) - known as "The Tramp"; St. Peter's, Sault Ste. Marie (1924-1927) & Shingwauk School; Retired to live in cottage at the Shingwauk School (1927-1928); Trinity College, Toronto, Han. DD (1910); First wife died in Ireland after a fall from a horse. Second wife suffered from mental illness and went to live with her father in Alberta; Son, Gowan Jr., died of TB in 1902 at the age of 26. Biography: E.
