Savage, John Morris (1797-1876)

(1797 Ireland - 9 October 1876 Sault Ste. Marie) Lay Reader for congregation at Sault Ste. Marie (1860's); Colonel in Royal Artillery; Aide-de-camp to the Governor of Corfu, an Ionian Island, then under Greek protection. Offered military governship of military college at Kingston - refused due to an act of cowardice displayed during the Crimean War; alternated time between Kingston and Sault Ste. Marie; Came to the Sault in 1860; Registrar & Deputy Clerk of the Crown and Pleas; Justice of the Peace (1860-1865); Buried in the Queen Street cemetery, Sault Ste. Marie.
