Machin, Charles John (1829-1910)

(15 October 1829 England - 23 December 1910 Kenora). Education: Bachelor Degree in Music; Deacon: 1866 Wisconsin, Priest: 1873 Toronto; Baltimore, Maryland (1870); St. George's, Toronto (1871-1872); Trinity Church, Rochester, NY (1874); Curate St. John's Cathedral, Newfoundland (1875-1882); Christ Church & St. James the Apostle, Sorel, Quebec (1883- 1885); St. John's, Port Arthur with Fort William, Oliver, the Silver Mines, Ignace & Savanne (1885-1893 [1898?])(St. John's became self-supporting in 1887); Leave of absence in 1890 to take his ailing wife to England - wife died in England in 1892; Rural Dean of Thunder Bay (1892-1898); Member of the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Algoma (1892-1899); Gravenhurst (1898); Beaumaris (1898); Burk's Falls (1904-1906) (relieved the absent A.W. Behrends); Retired 1 November 1909 to live with his son Harold Machin in Kenora, Diocese of Keewatin. Son Harold was MP for Kenora-Rainey River. Canon (1906). Han. Diocesan Secretary for SPG & CCCS (1906); Daughter Victoria married Arthur Cyril Boyce, KC, DCL, MP (1867-1942), Chancellor of Algoma Diocese (1910-1932). Machin was an ardent British Israelite and Imperial Federationist.
