Jacobs, Peter Jr. (1833-1864)

Ojibwe from Rama Reserve on Lake Simcoe. Son of Peter Jacobs Sr., or "Pahtasega", a student of the Rev'd William Case, Methodist missionary at Bellevile. Peter Sr. taught throughout Ontario and Western Canada. He was dropped from the Methodist ministry for financial irregularities and alcoholism. Peter Sr. served on Manitoulin Island with the Rev'd James Evans (1838-1839) and later went to Fort Francis. Peter Jr. attended Bishop David Anderson's school at Red River and attended Trinity College, Toronto. Deacon: 1856, Priest: 1857 Toronto; SPG Missionary at Manitowaning (1856-1864) replacing Frederick O'Meara. Peter Jr. had assisted O'Meara in the translation of the Pentateuch Isaiah and Proverbs in 1861. He died from consumption and is buried in St. George's Church cemetery, Islington, near Toronto.
