Crompton, William Henry (1836-1911/1920?)

Educated at the Chester Training College for Teachers; Lay Reader in Birmingham and Manchester; Crompton and his brother Abel arrived in Stisted township in 1873-1874 as experimental farmers; later built his own log church - St. John's, Stisted (1874); Deacon: 1875, Priest: 1879 Algoma; SPG Travelling Missionary in Muskoka (1875-1885); "Planted over 20 churches in the backwoods of Muskoka"; [Aspdin, Allensville, Emsdale, Burk's Falls, Magnetawan, Midlothian, Stanleydale, Starratt, Cyprus, Lancelot, Ilfracombe, etc.]. Incumbent at St. Mary's, Aspdin (1885-1889); Founder of the Algoma Association in England (1888); Middleton-on-the-Wolds, Yorkshire (1895-1896); Barcheston, Warwickshire (1899-1900); Long Compton, Shipston-on-Stour (1900-1909). Married Sarah Ann (1836-1889). Wrote: "Muskoka and the Free Land Grants (1878).
