William Archer Hankinson was an Anglican priest who served in the Diocese of Algoma. He was born on 9 February 1883 in Runcorn, Cheshire, England. He served as a student catechist at Temagami and Latchford, Ontario (1914-1915) and at Hymers, Thunder Bay (1915). Hankinson then served at St. John's, North Bay, under the supervision of C.W. Balfour (in charge of St. Simon's [later St. Brice's] with Calender (1917-1918). He was made deacon in 1917 and priested in 1920 in the Diocese of Algoma. From 1918-1919 he served at Rosseau as assistant to Frederick Frost who had suffered a stroke and then became the incumbent from 1919-1929. From 1919-1947 Hankinson was called to serve at St. Thomas', Fort William with St. Michael's, Port Arthur, Slate River, Rosslyn & Vicker's Heights. His final post was Milford Bay and Beaumaris (1947-1972).
Canon Hankinson was educated at Sir John Dean's Grammar School and Liverpool Institute and initially worked in the chemical business. He attended Missionary College at Dorchester near Oxford. He married Emma Smyth of St. John's, North Bay (1920-1937). Canon Hankinson passed away in 1972.
