History Biographical:

St. Stephen's Anglican Mission was part of the St. Luke's Anglican Parish (Sault Ste. Marie) before it's closure.

The mission was built during a "rapid growth" period in Sault Ste. Marie, with the expansion occupying northward into the Bruce Hill area, just south of Tarentorus. The St. Stephen's Mission started with the Sunday school in May of 1902, although the church was not built until the end of 1910. Activity and growth in the mission was steady, and in 1922 the Mission Hall was extended by 15 feet. By 1927, the building was re-bricked and renovated to include a kitchen, basement, and furnace room. The re-opening service took place on November 4, 1927.

Activity eventually dwindled and in 1964 the school was closed. By 1966, the disused church building was leased to the city for a year and in 1967 the remaining funds associated with the mission were transferred to the Algoma Mission Fund.
