History Biographical:

The Algoma University Students' Union (AUSU) is an organization run by students for students, and works to ensure that students’ voices are recognized amongst the Algoma U community. Students of Algoma University are general members of the AUSU. Also students are members of the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS), Canada’s national student organization. The CFS provides a lobbying voice for students; and students at CFS schools have access to a number of services, including the Student Work Abroad Programme (SWAP), the International Student Identity Card (ISIC), Student Saver, and much more.

At Algoma U, AUSU is responsible for providing a voice to students, organizing and funding events on campus, including Frosh Week, Frost Week, pub nights, and other fun activities. AUSU also provides student representation on most of the Algoma U bodies and committees, including the Board of Governors, Senate, and numerous Senate committees, including Academic Planning, Appeals, Curriculum, Student Services, and Ethics, and also provides representation at CFS meetings.

At the end of each academic year, a new student Board of Directors is elected by the students to head the operations and organization of AUSU. Elections are held in March, and newly elected members begin their one-year term starting in May. The key representatives who comprise the Board of Directors include:

  • President
  • Vice President Internal
  • Vice President External
  • Finance Commissioner
  • Recording Secretary
  • Campaigns and Special Projects Director
  • Communications Director
  • Ombudsperson
  • Brampton Campus Representative
  • International Student Representative
  • Science Representative
