AlgomaU logoThe Office of the President was created in 1984. It evolved from the functions held by the Office of the Principal (1965-1977) and the Office of the Dean (1978-1984) both of which exercised academic functions as well as the functions of a Chief Executive Officer, the latter of which are now held by the Office of the President.

The following individuals have held the responsibilities of chief executive officer for Algoma University College: Principals (1966-1977): The Reverend Charles A. Krug (1966-1968), Dr. Ian W. Brown (1968-1973) [acting], Dr. Francis R. Guth (1974-1975) [acting], and Dr. Donald Watkins (1975-1977). Chairman, Board of Trustees 1977-1978 (acting as CEO/Principal): Dr. D. G. Howell (1977-1978). Deans (1978-1984): Dean Dr. Robert G. Ewing (1978-1984) and Associate Dean Dr. Thomas A. Allaway (1983-1984). Presidents (1984- ): Dr. Patrick G. Wesley (1984-1987), Dr. J. Douglas Lawson (1987-1997), Dr. Linda Sorenson (1997-1998) [acting], Dr. Celia Ross (1998-2010); and Dr. Richard M. Myers (2010-2014), Dr. Craig Chamberlin (2014-2016), Dr. Celia Ross (2016-Present ) [Acting].

Fonds reflects the functional responsibilities of the Office of the President of Algoma University College, now President of Algoma University. Fonds arranged in the following series:

Records in accruals 2007-019, 2007-022, 2007-023, 2007-025, 2007-026, 2007-037, 2007-041 were placed in storage in the library's archives room after 1984 and before 2006.  The records were appraised for retention by Ken Hernden in 2007.

Accruals 2007-004, 2007-007 were transferred to the University Archives by the Office of the President in 2002. Accrual 2007-005 was transferred to the University Archives by the Office of the President in 2007.

Accrual 2010-195 was transferred to the University Archives by the Office of the President in 2010.  Accrual 2012-019 was transferred to the University Archives by the Office of the Registrar in 2012.

Accrual 2014-086 was transferred to the University Archives by the Office of the Academic Dean in December 2014.

Records in Accrual 2015-028 were placed in storage in about 1992. Ken Hernden identified and appraised the records for retention in March 2015.
