Access to Collections

We provide access to the materials held in the Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre archives, the Engracia De Jesus Matias Archives and Special Collections and the Anglican Diocese of Algoma Archives. Archival materials are available for use within the Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre or the Wishart A. Library.  Advance notice may be required to pull material from storage.  Contact us for more information.

Help with archival research

We are happy to help new and experienced archives users acquaint themselves with our collections.  We can provide advice of specific research questions, information on primary sources, and undertaking archival research.

We also offer one and one research support to students, faculty, and community members looking to access our material.

Teaching Support for Faculty

Our archives represent a unique resource for professors and instructors interested in using primary sources in the classroom.  Our collections cover a breadth of topics relating to Northern Ontario, the Algoma district, and Indigenous communities.

We welcome collaboration with faculty and are happy to provide instruction sessions tailored to your needs.  Areas of instruction include: history of residential schools, Algoma University history, how to use an archive, public history in the archive, digitization, and a range of other topics.

Please speak with us if you're interested in integrating archival material into the classroom through a tour, instruction session, or assignment.
