History Biographical: 

Cyril Henry Gilbert Peto (26 June 1901 - 16 February 1993) was an Anglican priest who served in the Diocese of Algoma.  Peto was born in Tidenham, Gloucestor,  England and served in the Royal Flying Corps in the First World War.  In 1923, he joined his parents in St. Catherines, Ontario where he worked in road construction for the provincial government.  In June 1925, Peto married Florence Minto Warne Peto met and became friendly with the Right Rev. Rocksborough R. Smith, Bishop of Algoma, during his travels. 

Bishop Smith aided Peto with his guidance  and arranged for his theological training at Wycliffe College in Toronto.  Peto was made deacon in 1937 and priested in 1938 in Algoma.  He served as Rector of St. James',  Murillo (1937-1941) and as Rector of  Trinity Church, Parry Sound (1941-1943), (1946-1967).  During the Second World War he served as a chaplain Canadian Armed Forces (1943-1946) in the European theatre of operations.  Peto also served as Archdeacon of the Deanery of Muskoka (1957-1966) and was made Archdeacon Emeritus on his retirement.

Fonds comprises records documenting Peto's career as an Anglican priest in the Diocese of Algoma and as a chaplain during the Second World War.  Includes his commission, correspondence, parish and deanery reports, agenda and other materials.
