Accession comprises records of the Board of Trustees (1978-1985); a five person board which ran Algoma University College after the Royal Commission dissolved the original Board of Trustees and Board of Governors. Dr. Dennis G. Howell served as chair. These records are notable for board's and the chair's consideration of the then proposed University of Northeastern Ontario, which would have seen Laurentian University, Algoma University College, Nipissing University College and the Universite d'Hearst organized as a single university with multiple campuses with local self-governance. The UNEO proposal came from the 1983 Parrott Report: Report of the Committee on University Education in Northeastern Ontario. Also included is the earlier (1978) "Cameron Report" on post-secondary education in Northern Ontario. Contains aide memoire from the in camera meetings of the heads of each institution and their discussions and votes on the UNEO proposal.
