The St. Mary's Indian Residential school operated from 1897-1972, in Kenora, Ontario, in Treaty 3 Territory.
The school was affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church and was operated by the Oblates and the Grey Nuns. When the school opened it could accommodate up to forty students. In 1915 the number of students was increased to seventy pupils.
Series comprises photographs of students, staff, and activities at the St. Mary's Indian Residential School.
SRSC only holds the digital copies of these photographs. The photographs in this series were scanned/copied, in part, by Andrea Auger of the NAN IRS Research Unit from files located at the Oblate Centre du Patrimoine, la Société historique de Sainte-Boniface and the Impact Northern Ministries of Red Lake. Additional photographic material was provided by Josias Fiddler, Saul Day, and NAN Deputy Grand Chief Goyce Kakegamic.
