History Biographical: 

Reverend Noel L. Goater was principal at the Shingwauk Indian Residential School from 1968-1970. Noel came to Canada in 1954. From 1954-1957 he attended Emmanuel Theological Seminary in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

After marring his wife, Jenann, Noel Goater and Jennan began to work in the Residential School system. They worked in Residential Schools for 13 years. They worked in Residential Schools in Moose Factory, Gleichen, Punnichy, Old Sun, and Sault Ste Marie. In 1968 Noel was chosen as President of the National Association of Principals and Administrators of Indian Residences.

In the 1970s Rev. Noel Goater served as the rectory of St. John the Divine (North Bay, Ont.).

From 1980-1987 Rev. Noel Goater was the Dean at St. Matthew's Cathedral in Brandon Manitoba. Noel served on the National Executive Council of the Anglican Church and on the board of the Anglican Journal. Noel and Jenann had two boys, Tim and Cam.

Collection comprises photographs of staff, students, and activities at the Shingwauk Indian Residential School. Collection emphasizes the activities during the time surrounding the tenure of Reverend Noel Goater as principal.
