History Biographical: 

The Children of Shingwauk Alumni Association (CSAA) is comprised of staff, students, descendants of staff and students, and friends of the Shingwauk  and Wawnosh Indian Residential Schools. CSAA has been heavily involved in the CSAA Logodevelopment of the Shingwauk Project and the implementation of Residential School healing initiatives. CSAA currently holds the Health Canada contract for Residential School support workers in a region of Ontario.

The Children of Shingwauk Alumni Association has been involved in Residential School issues since 1981.

CSAA provides:

  • A non-political voice for survivors concerns and interests
  • To support, promote & enhance healing and reconciliation
  • To establish working relationships with local, regional & national First Nations, Inuit, Metis, political groups, the Federal Government, Regional Survivor Groups and Churches
  • To promote awareness within our communities and main stream Canada

Fonds comprises records received, generated and used by CSAA. Includes general documentation, reports, correspondence, project summaries, job descriptions, grant proposals, newsletters, negatives and other material.

Custodial History: 

 Material in accession 2010-004 was transferred to Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre by the Children of Shingwauk Alumni Association executive in 2006. Material in accession 2016-006 was transferred to Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre on March 4, 2016 by Lori Rainville.
