History Biographical:

St. George's Anglican Church (Bear Island, Ont.) is a church within St. George's Anglican Parish (Bear Island, Ont.).  Bear Island is located in Lake Temagami and was home to a Hudson's Bay Post beginning in the 1870s.  Anglican services have been held on the island since around 1905.

St. George's Bear Island was once part of the parish of Cobalt, Latchford, and Temagami and looked after by the priest from Haileybury.  By 1969 there were concerns about lack of attendance, the feasibility of maintaining a church that is only accessible by boat, and administering a church from a considerable distance.
