In the later years (1965-1970) of the Shingwauk Residential School, most of the students on-site were only boarding and doing chores in the building while going to school in the wider Sault Ste. Marie community. When the boarding capacity was reached in the school, many students were boarded with local Anglican families in the Sault Ste. Marie community. These students still did extra-curricular activities at Shingwauk, however they went to a family home every night instead of Shingwauk Hall.17.
