History Biographical: 

William Erskine Pine was a member of Garden River First Nation. He served as a councillor from 1922-1924 and as chief from 1924-1931, 1934-1935, 1941-1943, and 1946-1962. In 1914 he attended the visit of the Duke of Connaught and Princess Patricia to the Shingwauk Indian Residential School with other members of the extended Pine/Shingwauk family. 

Scope Content: 

Fonds comprises records documenting the activities of Chief William Erskine Pine of Garden River First Nation. Includes minutes of Band Council meetings, correspondene, transcriptions of laws and Treaties pertaining to Garden River First Nation, and other materiels. Also includes some records kept by George Shingwauk (Menissino).
