Historical Context:

In many recent publications on computer graphics, digital image processing has been divided into two major categories: image enhancement and image restoration. Digital image processing can be simply equated to 'manipulating' an acquired image (Sheldon, BYTE 1987, p.141). These two methods of digital image processing may seem very similar in practice, however they are different in their primary goals.
