History Biographical:

The first Anglican service at Minnow Lake (also known as Black Lake) was held on Sunday, January 2, 1938 by Rev. Canon Simpson with assistance by Mr. James Thompson, licensed lay reader. The service was held in a local school house.

St. George's was built on the top of a pointed rock overlooking Minnow Lake in Sudbury. In 1987 St. George's Church underwent a substantial change to the building - the front was moved to the back of the building and the back to the front. This structural alteration meant that the sanctuary now faced out on the lake through a new East window arrangement and that parishioner no longer had to climb 49 steps to enter on the church.

St. George's Anglican Church (Minnow Lake, Ont.) held its final service on May 13, 1990 with Bishop Peterson as the main celebrant for the service of Holy Eucharist and Secularization of the Church.
