History Biographical:

St. Simon's Anglican Church (Temagami, Ont.) is part of the single-point St. Simon's Anglican Parish (Temagami, Ont.).

Anglican services were held in the Temagami school house until the construction for St. Simon's began around 1910; by the end of the year it was near completion. Although the upper level was incomplete and too cold for winter use, the community was able to use the basement. The building was 51' by 57' and cost around $2,000 to build. The diocese had high hopes for this church because of its closeness to the picturesque Lake Temiskaming and for its potential for cottages. There was little mention of the Temagami church in the Algoma Anglican newspapers until 1936 when the diocese expected a revival of the Temagami Anglican community. They planned to construct a small log church because, previously, the original church and property had been sold. The first service in the new St. Simon's was held on July 15, 1945. Involvement with the new church continued, and in 1953 the interior was redecorated.
