History Biographical: 
Margaret Trapper's full name is Marry Margaret Trapper Mowatt, she is a member of the Cree Nation of Washaw Sibi. She was born on May 24, 1947 at Haricana River. She is the daughter of Mina Reben Trapper Wylde and Allan Trapper. Margaret entered Shingwauk Residential School in Sault Ste. Marie in 1953. She attended Shingwauk for nine years and attended high school for three. In July 1966, Margaret married Fred Mowattin in Val Paradis, Quebec. They moved to Pikogan in June 1967. In September 1970 their first daughter Suzie was born. They later had two additional children, Beatrice and Freddy. Margaret has acted as a Cree Elder within Washaw Sibi.

The 1981 Shingwauk reunion was the first of a number of reunions of the the students, staff, clergy, and descents of those involved with the Shingwauk and Wawanosh Indian Residential Schools. The three day reunion saw 350-450 participants gather for homecoming and renewal. The reunion was organized through the efforts of the Shingwauk Project and what would become the Children of Shingwauk Alumni Association (CSAA). The reunion was held at the former Shingwauk school in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. The reunion aimed to help facilitate healing, communication, and a growing support network of survivors. Shingwauk reunions were held again in 1991, 1996, 2000, 2002, and 2006.

The 1991 Shingwauk reunion was the second of a number of reunions of the students, staff, clergy, and descendants of those involved with the Shingwauk and Wawanosh Indian Residential Schools. The 1991 reunion also marked the 160th Anniversary of Chief Shingwauk's Vision. This four day reunion brought participants from as far away as Elkhorn Indian Residential School. The reunion was organized through the efforts of the Shingwauk Project and what would become the Children of Shingwauk Alumni Association (CSAA). The reunion was held at the former Shingwauk school in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. The reunion aimed to help facilitate healing, communication, and a growing support network of survivors. Shingwauk reunions were also held in 1981, 1996, 2000, 2002, 2006, and 2011.

The 2006 Shingwauk reunion was one of the many reunions of the the students, staff, clergy, and descents of those involved with the Shingwauk and Wawanosh Indian Residential Schools. This reunion was hosted by Algoma University in conjunction with the National Residential School Survivors Society (NRSSS). Over 700 attended this three day event. The event was titled “A Journey of Healing and Rebuilding for Eastern Canada" and occurred August 4th, 5th and 6th, 2006. The reunion was organized through the efforts of the Shingwauk Project and the Children of Shingwauk Alumni Association (CSAA). The reunion was held at the former Shingwauk school in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. The reunion aimed to help facilitate healing, communication, and a growing support network of survivors.
