History Biographical:
Edmund Metatawabin (1948 - ) is a member of Fort Albany First Nation. He was born the first of eleven siblings. Edmund attended St. Anne's Indian Residential School in Fort Albany from 1955 to 1963.
Edmund was working on his Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies at York University when he was called home to run for Chief. Edmund held the position of Chief for eight years during which he concentrated on economic development and education.
Edmund is also a well known First Nations author and poet. His publications include: Hanaway (2004) and Harvesting: Cree Hunting and Gathering Techniques (2008). In 2010, he was part of the Our Story Advisory Committee for the Canadian Aboriginal Writing Challenge, run by the Historica-Dominion Institute.
