John A. Maggrah was the son of Catherine Maggrah of Little Creek, Ontario. He arrived at Shingwauk July 18th, 1884. Upon his arrival at Shingwauk John’s English skills were fair. Over the course of his five years at Shingwauk, John made very good progress and was considered to be a reliable boy. He was trained as a
teacher, and in June 1888 he departed from the Shingwauk school. In October of 1889, he entered St. John’s college in Winnipeg. By 1892, he was still at St. John’s and was reported to be doing very well. John was student no. 188.
