History Biographical: 
James Graham Butchart was born in Ireland and moved to Canada. In 1861 James and his wife Mary Jane Moore moved to Sault Ste Marie. The family lived for a time on the Garden River Reserve. James G. Butchart is thought to have worked on the construction of the first two Shingwauk Industrial Homes in Garden River and in Sault Ste Marie.
